Peyote is a Spanish word derived from the Aztec meaning “Divine Messenger” The first Peyote buttons were discovered in an archaeological dig at a site called the Shumla Cave on the Rio Grande in Texas and were dated around 3780 and 3660 BCE. That’s a long time ago. This very enigmatic plant has been used in sacred medicine from many peoples and is considered holy to many tribes around the world. Used in ancient prayer ceremonies that last from dusk until dawn, participants drink a tea that is made from Peyote to help them have a spiritual experience and connect with the Great Spirit. This candle was created to help inspire you to take that time to unplug and connect. The Peyote is blended in with the wax and sprinkled on top of the candle to act like an incense while burning.
